NWTF Golden Crescent of Texas Chapter

The National Wild Turkey Federation Golden Crescent of Texas Chapter is dedicated to the conservation of the wild turkey and the preservation of our hunting heritage in the Texas Golden Crescent, across this great State and across this great Nation.

We consider ourselves conservationists who hunt.

We, with our partners in conservation, actively manage our precious natural resources for our kids and grand kids and for the future of the wild turkey and all wildlife in Southern Texas.

  • We recruit all kinds of hunters through our hunter education programs and mentored hunts. We support public hunting access through lease programs.

  • We address legislative issues that impact hunter access and we work with landowners to provide greater access for hunting.

  • We embrace all outdoor enthusiasts of any age and encourage anyone to become a member of our growing family.

  • We believe in knowing where our food comes from and we value what we eat.

  • We work tirelessly to preserve our precious natural resources for all, especially our kids, our grand kids and generations to come.

  • We believe the outdoors is for everyone to enjoy.

Welcome to the Golden Crescent of Texas Chapter!

Thank you for making our second annual Hunting Heritage Banquet a resounding success! Your awesome support made it happen. see you next year!

We know, as sports enthusiasts, the outdoor lifestyle is your passion and truly worth conserving so we ask you to help us by attending our fundraising Hunting Heritage banquets or participating in our exciting online raffles. Also, please consider renewing or buying an National Wild Turkey Federation annual membership and receive all it’s benefits, or donating a dollar amount you would have spent on raffles and auctions at your local banquet - so our mission-related efforts can continue.

Local and state NWTF chapters host thousands of similar events nationwide each year to raise funds that help conserve wildlife and habitat, and introduce new people to the outdoors. Many families enjoy hunting together and pass traditions on from one generation to another. Hunting also is important for the health of our nation’s wildlife and habitat because hunters fund conservation.

Working together, we will ensure our conservation and hunting heritage efforts continue well into the future.

  • Our chapter, based in Victoria, Texas and serving; Calhoun, DeWitt, Goliad, Gonzales, Jackson, Lavaca, Refugio, and Victoria, Texas counties was established in 2022 to raise money for wild turkey conservation. The chapter’s focus is to introduce more outdoor enthusiasts to the NWTF HEALTHY HABITATS and HEALTHY HARVESTS conservation initiatives in southeast Texas. In addition, we look to achieve the following:

We invigorate the NWTF brand locally by engaging with local businesses and conservation/hunting interest groups to become more involved in helping us increase NWTF membership and donations

We help educate by awarding an annual student scholarship

We support and sponsor local Texas Brigades and Texas Golden Crescent Counties Natural Resources 4-H.

  • We have different options for you to get involved in helping us conserve our precious natural resources for our families and friends in our area. Please contact us to find out more.

Our Mission

The NWTF is dedicated to the conservation of the wild turkey and the preservation of our hunting heritage in Texas.

We exist to lead the preservation of hunting heritage by bringing together people who are passionate and steadfast about keeping American wildlife flourishing. We embrace the soul of the American hunting lifestyle

Our Promise:

We guarantee every NWTF endeavor will possess:

  • Scientific Basis – a grounding in sound principles based on the best available empirical evidence.

  • Inclusion – an attitude and approach that invites and welcomes all people who support conscientious wildlife-oriented lifestyles.

  • Altruism – selfless generosity based on our gratefulness for being granted a role within nature.

  • Mutuality – equal consideration to the well-being of wildlife and people through a lifestyle that best benefits both.

  • Pragmatism – respectful of the well-beaten path to success yet open to new proven methods.

  • Reverence – respect for natural laws, divine principles and the gift of all life.

We’re warm and knowledgeable outdoor enthusiasts rooted in science, an unwavering sense of gratitude and the potential of working together.

The NWTF is different from others:

  • The only conservation organization dedicated to the health of hunting practice as a means of sustainable sustenance and a grounded lifestyle (Body and Spirit).

  • The only conservation organization with a focus on the complete well-being of all American wildlife (Habitat to Harvest).

  • Foundational importance on divine faith and the sacredness of family (Creation and Sharing).

The National Wild Turkey Federation in Texas has an incredible mission, a history of success and most importantly, and an incredibly bright future.

As the conservation organization that collaborated with wildlife agencies to restore the wild turkey and all wildlife across the State and the country, we are building on our past success and forging paths to make a greater impact in the future.

Similar to a stream that passes through the Hill Country, we, too, are picking up momentum as we work to Save the Habitat. Save the Hunt.

At the halfway point of the 10 year initiative, we are achieving our goals and more, but there is still much work to do.

Will you help us conserve our hunting heritage and Texas wildlife for future generations?

Our Volunteers

Here are a few people who are involved in the National Wild Turkey Federation and are making a big difference in healthy habitats and healthy harvests in our area.

People became NWTF members because of their love for all wildlife in the Golden Crescent area of South Texas and to help conserve our precious natural resources for our kids and grand kids in our area.

If you know someone who hunts or just loves the outdoors, let them know about the good work the NWTF is doing around Victoria, Texas and encourage them to get involved.

“Nature conservation in the Golden Crescent means protecting our environment and the wildlife that lives in it. It includes looking after biodiversity and the health of our little small corner of the world. The Shutter Strutters Photo/Art Contest is one of the simple ways that kids can get involved in conservation and start helping the areas and species under threat.”

Jason Burckhalter

“The NWTF would not be at this juncture in our organization’s history without the support from our volunteers and members, along with dedicated agencies and corporate partners. It is for this reason, we are excited to exhibit alongside many of these partners and supporters and join with them to celebrate their role in 50 years of mission delivery and continue to build upon our success starting with our goals for this coming year.”

Lee Zimmerman

“Without our volunteers supporting us, the NWTF Golden Crescent Chapter wouldn't be able to continue its conservation and outreach work. We honor our volunteers for their efforts because we know that it is their dedication that make the NWTF so great in southern Texas.”

Paul Korthuis

“I’m new to the NWTF. I’m not a hunter. I didn’t know anything about it until a few years ago. That’s when I learned about all the things the NWTF does beyond hunting such as; land and habitat management, conservation of our natural resources, and responsible wildlife management of more than the wild turkey. I’m still not a hunter but I appreciate the NWTF’s conservation movement in Texas that strives to preserve our precious natural resources for my kids, my grand kids and our future generations.”
